The Mobile County Commission recently petitioned ADEM to down grade their storm water system permit so they do not have to do as much paperwork as the City of Mobile when it comes to Storm Water Management.
The Good Neighbor businesses along the Theodore Industrial Canal like so many other businesses in the City of Mobile don't bother to keep their shoreline clean. City and County codes require properties to be free of litter.
Ownership of land comes with a responsibility to keep it clean. We have a lot of sorry ass land owners in Mobile.
I've seen a lot of plastic bottles while kayaking over the years. An interesting note is not once have I seen a plastic bottle that had begun to deteriorate yet. That reminds me of the 1955 Millionaire Line Tupperware container still in use in my kitchen. It is 58 years old and shows no sign of deteriorating. Just think, the people living in the next century will get to enjoy seeing all these plastic bottles lining the waterways today.
I would imagine based on the City and County policy to ignore waterway litter that a century from now the density of plastic lining Mobile waterways will be unbelievable.
